Job Search Workshops

The job search is something we will all experience during our career. It should not be like a visit to the dentist nor like boarding a plane with an unknown destination. It should not be necessary to apply for a hundred jobs on job boards and consider it lucky if you receive one or two calls at most.

But to achieve better results, you really need a plan and understand how the recruiter selects candidates to interview from the hundreds of resumes they receive.

Our workshops will allow job hunters to better understand how they can significantly improve their chances of receiving an interview with a recruiter-the first step to a job offer.

Audience

College & University Students: These workshops will assist you to land an internship or summer role or related to your studies which is extremely important to gain a competitive advantage when you graduate. For graduating students, you will be provided with additional tools to assist you in landing your first career role.

Experienced Job Seekers: For persons already in the job market, these workshops will provide you with some tools that will increase your probability of receiving job interviews and ideally shorten the length of your job search. Just as importantly, it will provide you with the building blocks to successfully achieve future career moves.

Marc Farrell from HR NAV + has been involved in the talent industry for many years both in the corporate and consulting side. He understands how recruiters work today, the technology they use to select resumes and how you can increase your odds of getting an interview. After all the first step to landing a job is the job interview.

Our Workshops

WE have developed Zoom workshops to assist the job seeker maximize their opportunities to receive a job interview from an employer. The workshops are practical and hands on and will provide you with some actionable tools to use to significantly increase your odds of landing a job interview.

Each workshop is about two hours in length with a maximum class size of 40, so participants can be involved, ask questions and practice the tools we are providing.  We will be hosting Zoom monthly group follow-up sessions where participants can share best practices and  discuss their successes and challenges.

Job Hunting 101- 2 Hours

This workshop covers the basic building blocks for maximizing your chances of landing that job interview.

We cover the following areas each of which is important for you to make the most effective use of your time and deliver the best results:

  • Identifying your wants: Narrowing down what is important to you in your job, ensure that you do not spend time applying for roles that are not likely to satisfy your career goals. It is all about focus.

  • Strength of networking. We will review with you the power of networking and provide you with the ways to build up and expand your network so that these individuals can be a powerful source of referrals and job leads

  • LinkedIn We will show you why LinkedIn is important, and the steps to build an effective LinkedIn Profile. By understanding how recruiters find talent on LinkedIn will provide you with a competitive advantage

  • Job applications. Applying for jobs by way of job boards is perhaps the most used tool in the job search process yet ironically the least effective with on average 100-200 job applications required to obtain a job interview. We will provide you with the tools so that you can properly modify your resume to ensure that your resume is more likely selected by the recruiting software to be reviewed by a recruiter. On average, only one of every four resumes submitted for a job opening are actually reviewed by a recruiter

  • Developing A Game Plan. All these topics are of no use unless properly executed. Every participant develops a game plan and monthly we invite participants to share their success and difficulties with other participants

The Power of Networking – 2 Hours

This workshop provides an opportunity to learn the essentials of networking. From learning how to identify your current network to how to expand your network to include persons who can be vital to your job search.

According to most surveys 70-80% of all jobs have been found by way of various types of networking.  Understanding how and where to network will be essential for every job seeker.

We practice several ways to expand the number of persons in your network and how to keep these connections engaged and invested in working with you on your job search. We will practice both how to encourage an employee referral and how to successfully obtain informational interview from potential connections.

At the end of the workshop each participant will commit to expanding their network by an agreed number of persons per week and practicing the techniques which were learned. Sharing their successes monthly in our scheduled follow-up sessions will be encouraged.

Capitalizing on LinkedIn – 2 Hours

With approximately 80% of recruiters using LinkedIn to identify talent for open positions, it is important for job seekers to understand how to develop an effective LinkedIn profile and also how to use LinkedIn to expand and engage their network.

This workshop will provide you with the tools necessary to develop a LinkedIn profile which can be easily found by recruiters for appropriate job openings. Highlighting your strengths, skills, and detailed work experience will enable a recruiter to search out your profile from the over 5 million profiles. Participants will practice developing or improving their own profile as well as provide feedback on how to improve sample profiles.

Additionally, you will learn how to use LinkedIn to increase your network of connections by identifying candidates most likely to accept invitations. You will also be provided with the best ways to maintain an engagement level with those connections so that you become a better known and trusted connection.
