Improving The Candidate Experience.

The candidate experience can and does play a key role in how successful you will be in being able to attract the right talent.

What Is The Candidate Experience?

“The candidate experience is the collective result of all the interactions you have with candidates in the recruitment marketing and hiring process.”

It starts with the first time that a candidate reads or hears about a company and ends with a candidate becoming an employee and commencing the onboarding process. At any point a candidate could have a negative reaction and this risks that this candidate leaves or loses interest in an opportunity with your organization.

Why Is the Candidate Experience Important?

It is really important because it will affect your ability to attract talent and plays a significant role in shaping your employer brand in the marketplace.

As you can see, a positive or negative experience can shape your employer brand in the marketplace.

If you hire 10 positions per year and 100 candidates apply per position, there are now 1000 voices in the talent community. It is up to you what information they are sharing.

Stages In the Candidate Experience

We can think of the candidate experience as a funnel divided into four parts:

  1. Awareness
  2. Research & Consideration
  3. Application & Selection Process
  4. Post Decision

At each stage the number of potential candidates diminishes. There are a number of touch points at each stage which the candidate can either have a negative, positive or neutral interaction. The challenge is to ensure that your processes are designed in a way to minimize the negative interactions because this could cause a candidate to lose interest or opt out in the talent process.
